Reading the paper

Nothing is stored. There are no cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels and no third-party scripts of any kind. The web server keeps ordinary request logs for a short period, as any web server does.

Subscribing

If you subscribe, this is the whole of what is kept about you:

• Your email address, so the paper can be sent to you.
• The desks you chose, so you get only those.
• The IP address you subscribed from, and the date, as the record that you asked for this. It is kept for no other purpose and is never used to profile or locate you.
• Two random tokens, one to confirm the address and one that makes your unsubscribe link work forever.
• Dates: when you subscribed, confirmed, last received an edition, and unsubscribed if you have.
• A count of failed deliveries, so a dead address stops being mailed.

The lawful basis is your consent. Nothing is ever sent to an address that has not clicked the confirmation link.

Who else sees it

Nobody. The paper is sent from a mail server run by the same person who runs this site, and the database sits on that same machine. Your address is not sold, shared, or handed to an advertiser, and there is no advertising here to hand it to.

The editions are written by an AI system through a gateway that reaches outside model providers. Those providers are sent public news reporting and nothing else. They never receive your address, and they are not told who the paper is being sent to.

How long it is kept

Until you remove it. Unsubscribing stops the mail and keeps your address marked as unsubscribed, so that a later subscription form cannot start mailing you by accident. If you would rather be erased entirely, the unsubscribe page offers that as a second step, and it deletes the row outright.

What you can ask for

You can unsubscribe from any edition, in one click, without signing in to anything. You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to the address above. If you are not happy with the answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
